Government to release $5 million per day for fuel

The Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA) officials have revealed that Government through the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) to release $35 million per week so as to meet demand of the precious liquid in this festive season.

These revelations were made by the Acting ZERA Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Eddington Mazambani before the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Energy on Thursday.

Mazambani said that in this festive season we are in, the $60 million which was released by Government would last for a period between two to two and half weeks therefore, Government has agreed to release $5 million dollars per day to mitigate the challenges.

However, Mazambani told this publication that fuel consumption has doubled in the country and therefore, it is upon Government to triple its allocations during the festive season.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Energy and Power Development Dr Joram Gumbo has just returned from a week’s visit to Kuwait where Government has stretched its international engagement tentacles and Energy trade relations.

The Minister assured the country that there is a lot going on in as far as addressing the fuel crisis in the country is concerned.

He confided in the Harare Post that he met global petroleum giants into distribution and the meeting was fruitful. He said a deal is loading between the Government of Zimbabwe and the Sheikhs.
