Govt doing justice towards fighting corruption: citizens

by Rudo Saungweme

Citizens have expressed concern over negative utterances by some fellow Zimbabweans on the clearing of the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) officials who were suspended over allegations of corruption and illicit currency dealings.

The citizens have said President Emmerson Mnangagwa will always stand on his position on ending corruption.

One Government official who was interviewed by Harare Post on condition of anonymity said Government was doing justice to end corruption.

“Government is doing justice to end corruption in our country. Investigations carried out by the RBZ and law enforcement agents revealed that the four RBZ senior officials who were alleged to have been involved in corrupt activities had no case to answer. We are surprised that some of our fellow Zimbabweans are scorning the outcome of investigations. Justice has been done to the saga so why dispute the results,” said the Official.

In a press statement released by RBZ today in local newspapers, the Central Bank stated that the officials were not involved in any corrupt dealings.

“The Bank and the law enforcement agents carried out investigations which on conclusion have revealed that Messrs Chiremba, Norman Mataruka, Greshem Muradzikwa and Azvinandawa Saburi were not involved in the corrupt activities or any impropriety as alleged by Mr William Gerald Mutumanje. The Bank would thus like to advise the public that the quartet has been accordingly absolved of any wrong doing,” read the statement from RBZ.

One netizen @ronaldsako tweeted, “Let the law take its course. Some fellow Zimbabweans are on record of despising the rule of the law and it can be seen by MDC-Alliance supporters who are still in denial of the 30 July 2018 election results. Our President is one man who does not tolerate corruption.”

Speaking earlier this year on the eve of the expiry of the three month grace period he gave to those who externalised funds to repatriate the same, President Mnangagwa said Government had no friends in fighting corruption.

“In fighting corruption, we do not have friends. It is each man for himself.  I am happy that most of the people in the leadership accept the concept of fighting corruption,” said the President.
