Government is currently in the process of restructuring the economy which has been down trodden by illegal sanctions, the President has said.

The President said this whilst addressing Diplomats in Harare that Government was restructuring a system and economy affected by sanctions.

“We are restructuring a system and an economy which has been down trodden under illegal sanctions for too long, we are rebuilding an economy which has failed under illegal sanctions, and we are rebuilding a New Zimbabwe for ourselves. To succeed, we are aware that we must make tough decisions such as balancing our budget bringing investors and attracting foreign direct investment so that we create more jobs for our people,” said the President.

The President also said Government had put in place a policy focussed on reengaging nations to once again retain mutual understanding.

“My Government adopted robust engagement and reengagement policy anchored on transactional economic diplomacy through which we seek mutually beneficial relations with all nations despite previous misunderstandings and misgivings.

“Business delegations continue to exchange between our countries resulting in the upscale of investment interests across the country’s major economic sectors especially in the mining, agriculture, energy, tourism and infrastructure sectors,” said President Mnangagwa.

President Mnangagwa also said the peaceful harmonised elections held in July 2018 revealed the hopes of the people for a better future.

“The successful holding of peaceful democratic transparent credible free and fair harmonised general elections in July 2018 under a more open democratic environment heightened the aspirations and hopes of our people. It is in that spirit that we must continue to chart a better future for our country,” he said.
