ZRA assess progress on Kariba Dam rehabilitation project

The Zambezi River Authority is set to hold a week long Joint Mission on the progress of the Kariba Dam Rehabilitation Project (KDRP).

The meeting has started today (Monday) in Siavonga, Zambia.

This is the 8th technical joint Mission of multiple stakeholders directly involved in the implementation of the Kariba Dam Rehabilitation Project (KDRP).

The participants include members of the panel of experts which provides technical guidance on the project, project financiers, the National Authorising Office (NAO) of the European Development Fund which is the contracting office for the KDRP, the power utilities on the north south banks, the KDRP contractor and consulting engineers.

In a statement to Harare Post, Zambezi River Authority said these experts shall be reviewing the rehabilitation progress to date. At the end of the Mission, the participants are expected to proffer concrete technical advice on the way forward. This is a complex project stretching over eight years and costing US$294 million.

The Kariba Dam Rehabilitation Project is jointly funded by the African Development Bank, European Union, the Swedish Government, the World Bank and the Zambezi River Authority on behalf of the governments of Zimbabwe and Zambia.

The Zambezi River Authority is mandated to harness and manage the Zambezi River waters, forming a common border between Zambia and Zimbabwe for socio-economic development. It also maintains the Kariba Dam complex, including any future dams or infrastructure on the Zambezi river.
