The MDC Alliance’s ward 28 candidate for Cowdray Park in Bulawayo Collet Ndlovu has been castigated by netizens over his reckless and sexist statement over women.

Ndlovu said that residents must rally behind a male candidate because women politicians were weak. Netizens have indicated that these utterances are not in accordance with what the party preach about democracy.

Speaking during his campaign, Ndlovu said, “Women need men in positions of power because they are afraid, hence if crushed, they keep quiet.”

Ndlovu is also eying the Provincial Organising Secretary’s post in the upcoming congress.

A human rights activist, Doug Coltart tweeted on his twitter handle that people do not expect such utterances to come from a party which seeks to offer democracy.

Coltart posted, “The MDC must call its candidates to order. This sexist nonsense has no place in our society and is not what we expect from a party which is seeking to offer a democratic alternative.”

Some netizens also said that the MDC supporters adopted the system from their leader Nelson Chamisa.

Ibizo Lesibongo tweeted, “Chamisa himself had to take power away from Khupe for the same reasons so he cannot call anybody to order. He himself believes in what Ndlovu is saying.”

One netizen who is simply known as Bossmajor posted, “They learnt it from their leader Chamisa who has a history of attacking women. Remember he once said that they belong to the kitchen. He almost had Khupe burnt alive. He used Joanna as a sex object so it’s their modus operandi.”

Felix Masango also tweeted, “That’s the true nature of the party, from public heckling of female personalities to utter gender discrimination the Nazi style. MDC is the illuminati version of Zimbabwe politics.”

By virtue of being the most senior vice president in the party, Dr Thokozane Khupe was supposed to take over the presidency after the death of Morgan Tsvangirai. However, this could not happen as Chamisa`s Vanguard group did what could to ensure that no females are included in the MDC presidium.
