Gvt hands on in tertiary institution issues

Minister of Higher and Tertiary Education, Science and Technology Development, Professor Amon Murwira yesterday informed the nation that the Ministry is working on improving the functions of the Ministry and welfare of students.

Speaking in an interview with Star FM last night, Professor Murwira highlighted that his Ministry was in the middle of studying on whether the country can adopt the use of GMOs or not.

Professor Murwira also said incubation hubs have been opened and they are giving people ideas. He said this is a platform for people to develop their plans. Professor Murwira highlighted that Government has setup an artificial insemination hub in Chinhoyi that can cater for the whole country.

Speaking at the same interview, Professor Murwira also said, “The redesigning of the education system from 3.0 model to 5.0 model and is already yielding positive results. The education 5.0 model will help the country on its quest to become a middle income economy by 2030.”

He went on to say that it is with that in mind that the Ministry has been tasked to assess the Eastern highlands to come up with a suitable land use plan for the province.

Speaking on the students welfare, Professor Murwira highlighted that Zimdef would be putting a board of directors that will report to his ministry. He says this move will ensure that the Zimdef trust delivers on its mandate.

To top that, Prof Murwira highlighted that his Ministry had received $8 million from the Ministry of Finance to act as a guarantee to banks so that students can access loans. Again on financial issues, he assured students that they would not be banned from writing exams for failure to pay their fees.
