Combined Chegutu Residents and Ratepayers Association yesterday demonstrated peacefully against the MDC led Chegutu Municipality management, accusing them of corruption and mismanagement.

About 200 people marched from Engen garage to the Town House where they handed over a petition to Chegutu West House of Assembly member Dexter Nduna for onward transmission to the Minister of Local Government, Public Works and National Housing, Cde July Moyo.

Nduna took the opportunity to address the residents castigating the management for short-changing the ratepayers. He accused the management of blocking investors into the town. Same also highlighted that there is a critical shortage of housing in the town because the management refused to convert Libro farm into residential stands.

The residents called on the immediate resignation of the following six management officials failure of which they will exercise their constitutional rights and camp outside the Town House in seven days until they step down; Town Clerk Alex Mandigo, Chamber Secretary Jacob Chikuruwo, Finance Director Tongai Mandunge, Housing Director Shylet Dzivai, Town Engineer Shepard Nyarumbu and Human Resource Director George Kassam.

Mandigo is allegedly taking home an average of $8000 per month including allowances together with his top management. They also receive brand new vehicles annually which they can buy at cheaper prices after every three years yet they owe council workers millions of dollars in outstanding salaries.

Demonstrators were holding placards written, Stop blocking investors in Chegutu, Engineer mauraya guta, Enough is enough among others.
