Tourism revival efforts are underway in Kariba where Government through the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA) is laying ground to awaken tourism potential through improving accessibility.

On its twitter handle, ZTA during a meeting it held with Kariba business community recently at Caribbea Bay Hotel, said it was concerned with spearheading tourism revival efforts to begin in Kariba.

“ZTA officials and stakeholders are in Kariba to meet tourism players. Delegates are expected to assess and strategize on ways of reawakening the tourism resort town.

“Today’s engagement with the Kariba business community has been successful and signals the beginning of enormous work ahead. Minister of Environment, Hospitality and Tourism, Prisca Mupfumira believes that once Kariba’s accessibility improves, it will awaken its tourism potential and open up to tourists,” said ZTA.

Kariba has been identified as a tourism development zone and if developed should become one of the country’s tourism destinations.

“As a designated tourism development zone, Kariba will be awakened speedily as the new thrust seeks to dedicate energy on development. This will be done and implemented alongside a new, robust and aggressive marketing strategy,” said ZTA.

Zimbabwe houses the world’s largest man-made lake at Kariba in Mashonaland West Province. Improvement on accessibility to the resort area should result in an influx of tourists. Introduction of connecting flights with Harare and Victoria Falls should enable tourists to include Kariba on their visits.
