Public Service Commission has donated bed linen, beds, kitchen utensils and money towards Cyclone Idai victims.

Minister of Local Government, Public Works and National Housing, Honourable July Moyo thanked the PSC Chairman, Dr Vincent Hungwe for the donations saying the Commission has led by example.

"I want to thank the Chairman of PSC for leading by example. This Cyclone Idai has opened to me what is never expected of my country. The major actors are the civil servants who have been at the forefront of this disaster mitigation that we went through," said Minister Moyo.

Honourable Moyo said that the PSC should award those who worked very hard to assist the Cyclone Idai victims.

"The PSC in its pyscho-social interventions must reward excellence in order to reboot the civil servants from the fatigue they went through during Cyclone Idai relief programs.

"PSC should select those who did the best and award them with medals at our Heroes or Armed forces day celebrations," said the Minister.

Minister Moyo said that the country was now moving away from short term rescue efforts to long term rescue efforts.

He said that the roads were now passable but they needed to be rehabilitated so that they can withstand the rains and also other natural hazards like tremors that usually hit Chimanimani and Chipinge areas.

One of the country's largest fuel seller, Zuva Petroleum has also donated RTGS $100 000 which is meant to rehabilitate five schools affected in Chimanimani and Chipinge areas.

"As part of our social responsibility, we have donated RTGS $100 000 as our contribution for the rehabilitation of Tonhorai, Ndima, Hot Springs, Charles Lwanga and Dindingwe schools," said Zuva Petrolleum Chief Executive Officer, Bothwell Gumbo.

Minister Moyo said that the Private Sector had also a role to play in the country. He added that, President Emmerson Mnangagwa stated that the private sector must be included in national development.

"The private sector has a role to play in national development. President Emmerson Mnangagwa indicated that we must work together with the private sector in our journey to attain a middle income economy," said the Minister.
