Chamisa divides Mbare Assembly

Starman Chamisa, young brother to MDC leader Nelson Chamisa, is reportedly causing serious problems in the MDC Mbare District Assembly where he is being accused of imposing his allies on influential positions, manipulating party structures and taking the opposition party as a family affair.

A source within the party says Starman always boasts about being the MDC President dearest young brother.

“The young man has caused more problems in Mbare taking advantage of his relation with the party leader which is unacceptable. We are now finding it very difficult to make decisions and resolutions as a district because whatever we deliberate under closed doors will invite Nelson Chamisa`s interference,”  said the source.

The source claimed that in most cases after meetings, Chamisa calls district leadership reversing decisions that could have been made by the District Assembly.

The source further revealed that Starman runs parallel party structures in the district in which he imposes party members loyal to his brother Nelson.

According to the source, Starman is no longer popular in Mbare as the leadership also accuses him of dictatorial tendencies and manipulating party structures to his wish.

“Imposition and manipulating of structures started prior to our 2019 elective congress where Starman eliminated those he believed were not loyal to his brother. He also imposed his loyalists during district restructuring exercises,”

According to the source, Starman imposed the then ward 3 Youth Assembly Chaiperson, Shame Mutasa as Mbare District Youth Chairperson against the then District Organising Secretary, Anymore Tichareva. Starman also allegedly imposed Wonder Chirombe as ward 4 chairperson.

The source further claims that because of the disgruntlement, the district leadership intends pass a vote of no confidence in Starmans. A petition threatening to demonstrate against Starman had already been drafted and will be soon send to Nelson Chamisa.

According to the source, the word has already reached Nelson Chamisa who has reportedly since moved in swiftly to extinguish the looming fire. It is alleged that he has directed MDC Harare Provincial Chairperson Wellington Chikombo to make sure all disgruntled members have been co-opted into influential positions.
