The late President of the Republic of Zimbabwe, Robert Mugabe will be buried at the National Heroes’ Acre, a Mugabe family spokesman has said.

The former President’s nephew, Leo Mugabe, has confirmed that the late President will be buried at the national shrine on a date to be announced.

“I can confirm that there has been a consensus that he should be buried at the (National) Heroes’ Acre. At least they (Zvimba chiefs and traditional leaders) have pronounced their position which they had not pronounced all along.

“Now what we need to do is to wait for the details. The issue of a private burial has always been central to the chiefs, as such we are yet to confirm if it will be a public or private burial,” he added.

This comes in the wake of previous reports of an impasse over the former president’s burial place, between the late nationalist’s family, the State and chiefs from his Zvimba ancestral home.

At the time of writing the body of the late leader was lying in state at Rufaro Stadium for public body viewing before being taken to the National Sports Stadium this Saturday, before being taken to Murombedzi Business Centre in Zvimba on Sunday for locals to view the former leader’s body.
