The main objective of the re-engagement process is to normalise all relations with countries so as to end estrangement and reopen lines of communication, a Government official has revealed as he called for the removal of sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe.

Welcoming a military contingent from Zambia Defence Service Command Course 22 of 2019, Chief Director Political Affairs in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Ambassador Lovemore Mazemo highlighted that Zimbabwe`s re-engagement process is meant to normalise relations with all countries to end estrangement.

“Whilst attending the global conference for media freedom in London in July this year, our Honourable Minister, Sibusiso Moyo was on a re-engagement process to improve bilateral relations through investment in this country. It is actually good to see positive responses from the international community,” he said.

Ambassador Mazemo called for the removal of the sanctions imposed upon Zimbabwe which he said were affecting the vulnerable Zimbabweans.

“We are appealing to those countries that have imposed sanctions on us to reconsider. Sadly these sanctions adversely affected the most vulnerable groups in the population and the economy in general,” he said.

Speaking at the same event, Head of delegation of the Zambian Defence Forces, Colonel G. M Levuti highlighted that the world is now a global village hence the need to live in harmony.

“Indeed globalisation is one phenomenon that is on our lips now and that has brought nations together as a small village. Therefore, no country can afford to stand alone without interfacing or interacting with other States in harmony,” he said.

Speaking during the State of the Nation Address on Tuesday, President Emmerson Mnangagwa highlighted that as the country continues to engage and re-engage with the international community, it remains indebted to SADC following their landmark resolution which declared 25 October as the date for Member States to collectively call for the lifting of the illegal sanctions imposed on the country.
