MDC leadership disappointed with US

Staff reporter

The MDC leadership is unhappy with the muted response of the US to demonstrations that are taking place in Latin America, the Middle East Europe and Asia.

The MDC leadership believes that the silence of US to what the opposition party views as serious human rights violations in Chile, Ecuador and Lebanon diminishes the standing of the US globally. The MDC holds the view that, as a result, the US would be seen as focusing only on Zimbabwe and other countries that it dislikes.

This would give credence to the anti-sanctions’ crusade which is based on the argument that the sanctions against Zimbabwe are not based on Washington’s desire to spread democracy and adherence to human rights but a desire to install a puppet government in Zimbabwe.

The MDC believes that the US is letting them down by not being consistent and acting hypocritically. Thus, the MDC believes it is the reason why the SADC, the AU and the Non Aligned Movement are taking the anti-sanctions crusade seriously.
