Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals (PGH) said it had already started implementing patient safety measures and timeous service delivery following the death of Ms Sharon Munyonho at the hospital`s Mbuya Nehanda maternity wing last month.

Munyonho`s death is alleged to have been triggered by negligence of PGH staff members. PGH highlighted that, investigations to establish the circumstances are still underway.

“We promised to carry out investigations to establish the circumstances leading to the demise of Ms Sharon Munyonho. Because of the nature and complexity of the matter, the investigation team took some time to complete the investigations and the hospital has shared its findings with the family of the deceased.

“The demise of Ms Sharon Munyonho remains highly unfortunate. We have observed the need for strengthening our systems and concerted efforts to ensure the availability of the necessary equipment shall continue unabated.

“The hospital has already started implementing the team`s recommendations to enhance patient safety and timeliness of service in Mbuya Nehanda Maternity Hospital. Appropriate action is being taken on the staff members involved in this case,” reads the statement.

PGH expressed their commitment to the provision of quality healthcare services to patients and promised to serve many patients from all over the country despite this unfortunate incident.

The late Munyonho is alleged to have died in a labour ward after having long contractions with no assistance from the medical team. Munyonho was found dead the following day with her dead child between her legs.
