Government critic joins call for removal of sanctions

Top Government critic, known on social media as Zandile MaDube, has joined the call for the removal of sanctions on Zimbabwe calling them ‘useless and unhelpful.’

Posting on her micro blogging site, Twitter, MaDube called for unity among Zimbabweans in order to improve the socio-political situation in the country.

“Sanctions should go, they are useless and unhelpful. The people of Zimbabwe should unite to improve the economy. If Zimbabweans aren't prepared for the struggle, none will undertake it for them,” she said.

On the same tweet, MaDube postulated that the MDC would never win an election through the ballot, a clear indication that the party’s supporters are under no illusion that the party would deliver on its promises to the electorate.

MaDube’s call for the unconditional removal of sanctions comes amidst a statement by China’s Foreign Minister, Wang Yi condemning the illegal sanctions on Zimbabwe saying that they have no basis under the international law.

Addressing journalists  after a closed door meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Sibusiso Moyo, the Chinese top diplomat said, “The unilateral sanctions imposed by some countries and organisations on Zimbabwe have no basis under the international law, we call for the removal of sanctions.”

Regional and continental bodies which include SADC and AU have been calling for the removal of sanctions against Zimbabwe highlighting that the sanctions do not only affect Zimbabwe but the continent as a whole.
