MDC-A Matebeleland Province up in arms with Chamisa

By Innocent Mujeri

Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) members in the Matebeleland Provinces are up in arms with the party’s leader Nelson Chamisa, they are accusing him of devising a grand plan to eliminate Ndebeles from the influential party positions, Harare Post can reveal.

The Matebeleland based MDC members are refuting allegations that the National Chairperson Thabita Khumalo is embroiled in a nasty fight with Karenyi Kore and Amos Chibaya over control of the party in the region.

Instead, it is believed that Kore and Chibaya are the ones fighting Khumalo with the blessing of Chamisa.

Khumalo has already threatened to resign from the position of National Chairperson if the purge against her persists.

A source who spoke to Harare Post on condition of anonymity said that MDC members in Matebeleland Province are now seeing that there is no room for them in the party.

“The MDC is clearly a party for the Shonas as every Ndebele who rises to a position of influence is usually victimised. Look at what happened to mama Khupe (Thokozani).  She was the one to take over after the late Tsvangirai (Morgan) but because she was Ndebele that could not happen,” said the source.

Kore, who is the MDC vice president and Chibaya, the MDC Organising Secretary are believed to be Chamisa’s foot soldiers carrying Chamisa’s grand plan of eliminating all Ndebeles from the leadership of the party.

Another source said the victimisation of Ndebele people in the MDC will not end with Khumalo as there is also a plan to eliminate Welshman Ncube from the position of vice president to make way for Tendai Biti to solely occupy that position.

Political analyst Mr Godfrey Magombedze said the anti-Ndebele stance slowly being adopted by the MDC will backfire as the Matebeleland Provinces are the backbone of the opposition outfit.

If the infighting in the MDC persists, the party is likely to disintegrate before the 2023 polls.
