Hashmon Matemera a farmer of Dugane farm in Tengwe, Hurungwe, prides himself with a farming enterprise on more than 890ha that specializes in cattle ranching, meat processing, horticulture and maize production.

"I bought this farm in 2006 and retired from my full time job to manage this business. I have not looked back since then, developing this farm to where it is today. I have received overwhelming material and logistical support from Government, and this, together with my own resource mobilisation efforts has raised this farm to its current status today. While resources are hard to come by, this two pronged approach to resource mobilisation has kept us afloat," said Matemera.

Dugane farm prides itself with a 600 strong herd of cattle and has in excess of 400ha under maize. The vibrant farming concern employs 72 full time workers whose services are complemented by casuals on a need basis.

“Matemera said, “Added to a dedicated workforce that works as a team, the farm's biggest strength is its infrastructure, which was developed on cash budgeting. We are currently receiving inputs under the Command Agriculture Program, however, this farm is in need of irrigation pivots to increase its capacity utilisation.”

The Dugane brand has grown strong from an assortment of processed meats available in local supermarkets. Also, the farm has built its legend as a popular hive of entertainment where nationally recognised musicians frequent.

Dugane is famed for its bumper supplies of maize to the Grain Marketing Board.
