MDC-Alliance canvasses for more sanctions on Zim

The MDC-Alliance, which was recently declared a “ghost” political party by the Supreme Court, is clandestinely canvassing for more sanctions to be imposed on Zimbabwe, so that it can gain its lost political glory through the suffering of the people.

An MDC-Alliance insider, who preferred anonymity for fear of reprisal, confided to this publication that the MDC-Alliance leadership is compiling a dossier to be presented to the Western Embassies in Zimbabwe calling for more sanctions to be imposed on the country.

“The party (MDC-Alliance) is currently compiling a dossier about alleged human rights abuses and alleged lack of rule of law in the country with the intention of submitting the dossier to the local American and British Embassies. The goal is to solicit for more sanctions to be imposed on the country by these Western countries so that the party can gain political mileage through the suffering of citizens,” said the source.

According to the same source, the dossier consists of names of several Government and ZANU PF officials who the MDC-Alliance wants to be added on the sanctions list.

“The MDC-Alliance wants several Government officials to be sanctioned so that Government operations could be crippled. If you see the document that is being compiled, you can see that quite a number of Government and ZANU PF officials are on the list of people who should be sanctioned. If the MDC-Alliance’s wish for those people to be sanctioned is granted, then Government operations would be grounded to a halt, as most of its officials would be under sanctions,” said the source.

In 2017, the MDC-Alliance leaders Nelson Chamisa and Tendai Biti criss-crossed the Western countries and engaged different officials in the US Congress begging them to extend sanctions on Zimbabwe.

Political analyst, Nobleman Runyanga, said by calling for more sanctions to be imposed on Zimbabwe, the MDC-Alliance has shown that they are a selfish party which rejoices in the suffering of the citizens.

“Politics should not lead to the suffering of the masses. The MDC-Alliance does not understand this as their political contestation is suppressing national interests. The sanctions are for the benefit of the MDC-Alliance, not for the ordinary person suffering on the streets. If people suffer because of you then you are not a leader.” said Runyanga.

Another political analyst, Terrence Chipwanya, said it’s not surprising that the MDC-Alliance party is calling for more sanctions as its leaders have never been for the people, but are power hungry individuals who stop at nothing to attain power, even if it meant destroying the nation.

“The MDC-Alliance is a group of selfish individuals who only want power. Unbeknown to them, the sanctions they are calling for would also affect them. It’s a case of a husband burning down one’s house because of a quarrel with the wife,” said Chipwanya.

Simba Mhuriro, another political analyst said it’s inconsiderate and criminal for the MDC-Alliance to continue holding the people of Zimbabwe to ransom by way of illegal sanctions because they want people to revolt against government prompted by hardships. Mhuriro said sanctions are killing the nation and the ordinary man and those who lobby for them should be charged with treason.
