Power outages explained

Power outages being experienced around the country are because of a technical fault at Hwange Power Station compounded by the unavailability of normal import levels.

In a statement yesterday, ZESA Holdings  said restoration of normal service will be done soon.

“ZESA Holdings would like to advise its valued customers countrywide that there is limited power supply on the national grid due to a technical fault at Hwange Power Station.

“The depressed power supply has been compounded by the unavailability of normal import levels due to constraints in the region,” said the power utility in a statement.

ZESA Holdings said the public will continue to be updated on the power situation and urged people to use electricity sparingly.

“Restoration of service to optimum levels is currently underway and customers are advised to use the available power very sparingly and will be updated as the situation improves,” reads the statement.

Power challenges in the country are likely to be a thing of the past as Government, together with the private sector, is implementing various power projects in the country.

These projects includes the expansion and rehabilitation of Hwange Thermal Power Station and the completion of Gwanda Solar Project among many others.

Zimbabwe last experienced serious load shedding in March, this year, due to the low water levels at Kariba Dam.
