Civil Servants to get pay rise

By John Mhazo

Finance Minister, Mthuli Ncube says civil servants are set to get salary reviews every three months to cushion them against economic uncertainties.

“We are reviewing salaries for civil servants. We want to review their basic salary and allowances. We are also reviewing the policy in terms of how they should be paid,” he said.

Over the past three months Civil servants have been receiving US$75 monthly Covid-19 allowances while pensioners have been receiving US$30.

A pay rise for civil servants would mean improved living conditions.

The Zimbabwean dollar is slowly gaining value against the American dollar and if the trend continues lives would significantly improve.

On Tuesday the Zimbabwean dollar marginally gained by $0.60c trading at $82.69 from $83.32 against the USD.

With salaries being reviewed every three months, the Zimbabwean dollar gaining value and prices of basic goods and commodities slowly declining, lives of majority of citizens are set to be better.

This publication spoke to civil servants to hear their views regarding the finance Minister’s announcements.

“We are grateful for the Government’s Coivd-19 allowance which has been very helpful in our lives. Another basic salary increment would add value and dignity to our work,” said a civil servant on condition of anonymity.
