Harare City Council slowly villagizing - Gutu

Last two decades have seen Harare City Council being villagized from a Sunshine city into trash and slum city, a former opposition leader has said.

Former MDC-T Spokesperson Obert Gutu today posted on twitter complaining that city councillors and bureaucrats are illegally allocating residential stands to girlfriends, whilst neglecting service delivery.

“These thieves are not fit for purpose, not even fit to run a village in Gutu,’’ said Gutu.

Responding to Gutu`s tweet, another cyber troll user @bMusonza tweeted that, “Every open ground in Harare reserved for parks, sporting and recreation is being sold for residential stands by the MDC-Alliance Councillors.”

Another Twitter user @kundayimasekesa said the MDC-led Harare City Council has proved that service delivery is not in their DNA.

“The Harare City Council has proved that service delivery is not in their DNA. The once Sunshine City has been turned into a village by the MDC councillors who are running it.Come 2023,these incompetent councillors should be booted out of office,” tweeted Kundayi Masekesa.

Recently, six Harare MDC-Alliance officials were arrested for allegedly being involved in land scams as Government intensifies the fight against corruption in local authorities.

The arrests came after President Mnangagwa recently urged the justice system to step up the fight against corruption and bring an end to the “catch and release syndrome”.

The head of Special Anti-Corruption Unit (SACU), Mr Tabani Mpofu confirmed the arrest of the six saying there is tangible evidence linking the six to serious corruption charges.
