Corrupt Gokwe councilors a shadow of MDC-A rot

MDC-A Gokwe councilors who have been implicated in corruptly allocating themselves substantial amounts of travel and subsistence allowances at the expense of service delivery during a time when government is grappling with the COVID-19 pandemic is merely a shadow of the bigger rot and corruption in that party, said an analyst.

The Harare Post has learnt, five councilors, Machinda Mtembedzi, Darlington Mudondo, Never Gwanzura, Tichaona Muhora and Charity Mungwani on several occasions’ pressured council management to allocate them travel and subsistence allowances for dubious trips.

The five successfully hand twisted council management and were awarded $235 000 for dubious trips to Harare to inspect already purchased vehicles.

Political commentator, James Ziki speaking to this publication over the continued implication of MDC-A officials in corruption said, this is only a shadow of the bigger rot and corruption in that party.

“Look, Gokwe is a small town and if you have councilors robbing villagers in broad day light, what of the extent of corruption in bigger towns such as Harare and Chitungwiza. Our towns are stinking with the rot of corruption in the MDC-A to the extent that even garbage collection and provision of safe drinking water is a herculean task for the corrupt officials to serve,” he said.

Ziki said the rot in MDC-A offers an opportunity for ZANU PF party members to overwhelmingly vote for the party that delivers its election promises, come 2023 elections.

“It is high time voters see that the MDC-A wants to be in government to enrich itself and cares little for the provision of service. This must be the last stroke and Zimbabweans must learn to vote for the party that delivers on its election promises,” he said.

The Harare Post has also learnt, the five councilors failed to recruit Zanu PF councilor, Davis Taruvinga in their shenanigans leading to the exposure of their activities.

His Excellency, President Emmerson Mnangagwa has on several occasions reiterated that the New Dispensation does not tolerate corruption and anyone implicated in corruption will dance to the music.
