Govt procures more buses

By Staff reporter

As part of continued efforts to provide affordable and reliable transport to the public, Government has acquired 50 more buses from China.

The buses will be managed and owned by Zupco.

Zupco’s Acting Chief Executive officer, Everisto Madangwa confirmed the development but could not divulge more information.

However, a source at Zupco told The Harare Post that the buses arrived through the Beitbridge border post.

“So far, we have 50 buses within the border and the import documents are being processed by a customs clearing company contracted by the Government,” said the source.

The buses are part of more than 1 000 buses acquired from China and they are being delivered to the country in batches.

The New Dispensation led by President Mnangagwa has committed itself to providing affordable and reliable transport to both urban and rural commuters.

To date Zupco buses are plying local and inter-city routes such as Harare-Masvingo-Bulawayo-Mutare-Victoria Falls and others.

This is a testimony that government is fulfilling the promise it made to the people.
