The US Embassy in Harare is interfering in Zimbabwe’s domestic politics by taking part in the funding of political party activities, a source has revealed.

Speaking to this publication, the source said the US Embassy was funding MDC A’s political mobilization activities under the guise of peace- building which is a gross interference in Zimbabwe internal affairs.

“The US Embassy’s funding of MDC A’s political mobilization activities under the guise of peace-building constitutes gross interference in Zimbabwe's internal affairs and is in violation of our national sovereignty and all norms of international law,” said the source.

“The MDC A Masvingo Provincial youth Assembly congress that is being held at Mutirikwi lodges is being funded by the US Embassy in Harare through CSOs called COTRAD and MACRAD.

“MACRAD Programmes coordinator, Ephraim Mtombeni, COTRAD programmes officers, Brighton Ramusi and Zivanai Muzorozi paid the bill for the congress venue at Mutirikwi. They applied for funding from the US Embassy in September 2020 under the pretext of funding a peace building project to be implemented in 2020.

“The US Embassy instructed them to get a recommendation from MDC A alleged to be the victims of political violence. The trio approached MDC A secretary general Charlton Hwende who told them that they should also logistically support the restructuring exercise in Masvingo Province,” said the source.
