Arthur Manase has been appointed as the National Social Security Authority (NSSA) General Manager with effect from 1 January 2021. This was announced by the parastatal’s board chairman, Cliford Matorera yesterday.

“The appointment was approved by the Minister of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare, Professor Paul Mavhima, with the concurrence of the President, His Excellency, Cde Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa. The appointment of a substantive General Manager/CEO was one of the main tasks that the Minister of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare had mandated the interim board to finalise during its tenure,” said Matorera.

Manase joined NSSA in December 2019, from the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ), where he was the Executive Director responsible for Legal Services and Corporate Affairs. He had been leading the authority in an acting capacity until his confirmation as substantive General Manager. He holds first and masters’ degrees in law.

The new NSSA General Manager is an academic and a professional who has had stints with the University of Zimbabwe and Air Zimbabwe. Matorera praised Manase as having acquitted himself very well during his tenure as the acting NSSA General Manager.

“At NSSA, Arthur demonstrated his astute leadership prowess as he, within 12 months, successfully turned around the fortunes of NSSA by ushering in a new culture founded on transparency, honesty and accountability,” he said.

Matorera credited Manase with transforming NSSA leading to the authority receiving more than 10 prestigious local and international awards from different organisation in various categories which include service delivery, corporate social responsibility and business leadership among other accolades.

During Manase’s 12-month stewardship of NSSA, the authority rebranded leading to the introduction of a new corporate identity on 1 December 2020.
