Ngarivhume’s ‘Day of rage’ call riles Zimbabweans

Transform Zimbabwe president, Jacob Ngarivhume’s call for demonstrations on social media (Twitter) dubbed “day of rage” attracted criticism from angry Zimbabweans who admonished and urged him to quit politics.

Seemingly dismissing the event, netizens took turns to ravage the self- proclaimed #31JulyMovement conveyer, after he send a message through his Twitter handle inciting people to riot on 26 March 2021, under the ‘Day of rage’ theme.

In a tweet, Ngarivhume said, “26 March let us express ourselves as a free people. We are done with the lies. Sick of living like animals with no rights. Tired of corruption and special treatment of Zanu PF.

“We are done being lectured about democracy and patriotism by looters and murderers

In response, Emmanuel Tiribabi said, “Leader how do you come up with these dates? Last time you consulted wrong people we ended up with informers like Linda Masarira and all rubbish people. It’s important to have a plan before announcing dates…you should probably quit politics.”

Equally dismissing the event, Mhofu vekwatete said, “Vakomana chimbotisiyai tishande taive ku lockdown ….isu tozvishandira tiregei tishande mirirai election guys taneta nazvo izvi (We have been in the lockdown period, please allow us to concentrate on work. Why not wait upon elections, we are tired of this)” he said.

Exposing his fatigue with failed MDC-A leader, Rangarirai Tivadye said, “When you proclaim a date like this, it gives weak pastor Chamisa time to plan for an excuse. Last time, July the 31st 2020 to be exact, he went on leave to hide. He weakly handed over MDC-A leadership to pensioner and unconcerned tribal chief Welshman Ncube.”

Political analyst, Ray Mwando has, however, called on the public to shun this call saying it will lead to nothing other than violence.

“The literal meaning of rage is very strong and uncontrolled anger or violent action. So, what is it exactly that Ngarivhume is calling for from people?

“The next thing will be violence and arrests, something which he is clearly seeking for in order to remain politically relevant. Because once he is incarcerated then he will have ground to start on human rights violation and infringement on his freedom of speech, yet he is openly inciting people to be violent.”

This is not the first time that Ngarivhume has taken his fight to social media streets, in vain.

“Just like the 31 July date, 26 March will likely turn out to be just but another normal day,” Mwando said.
