Chin’ono rubbishes Chamisa appointments

Journalist-cum political activist, Hopewell Chin’ono yesterday slammed MDC-Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa for his 2020 appointment of Welshman Ncube to oversee the International Relations portfolio, arguing that Tendai Biti was a better option.

Writing on his Facebook page, Chin’ono said, “Welshman Ncube is a brilliant administrator, Tendai Biti is the most well-known MDC-Alliance leader internationally other than Chamisa. Biti and Ncube should swop positions. It makes no sense for Ncube who lives in Bulawayo where there is no single Embassy to supervise International Relations. The International community will be key in the next 22 months heading into an election.”

Chin’ono’s sentiments which were viewed by some analysts as veiled attack on Chamisa, came at a time when critical voices have been raised against Chamisa’s perceived lack of political strategy.

Former Sunday Mail Editor and Government critic, Edmund Kudzayi said, “Zanu-PF has a plan. Whether or not these plans are good or evil is unimportant, they deliver results. 2023 will not be an exception. Ndakatombobheja nzeve chaidzo, until I saw clearly. Tukai zvenyu asi garwe hamuribvise without a change of strategy and attitude.”

Relatedly G40 kingpin and former Cabinet Minister, Professor Jonathan Moyo tweeted, “While it’s true that doing nothing and keeping your plans close to your chest can keep your opponent guessing and confused, it’s also true that doing nothing can create a vacuum that can be filled by anything or can give your opponent the opportunity to give you a sucker punch.”

Recently Professor Moyo also tweeted describing the MDC-Alliance as a spineless party that majors in criticising other political parties and Government, yet it lacks tangible action to capture its constituency.

“An opposition political party that wants to be taken seriously as a government in waiting has a duty to itself, to show not just capacity, but also some fighting spirits and spine against all odds, so far the MDC-Alliance has shown none. Where it has opposed, it has not proposed,” said Professor Moyo.

Chamisa has failed to unite the MDC-Alliance family as evidenced by continuous defections and infighting within that party. He has also failed to convince the electorate that the MDC-Alliance is capable of leading and transforming lives of ordinary Zimbabweans after failing to manage urban councils countrywide.
