Leader of the MDC Alliance, Nelson Chamisa, was yesterday booed in Mutoko while speaking at the unveiling of the late activist, Patson Dzamara’s tombstone.

A source who spoke to this publication said Chamisa, who visited Dzamara’s homestead at Nyamakosi village in Mutoko with an entourage of about ten people, was made to cut short his speech when people began to jeer him for allegedly neglecting Dzamara at his hour of need.

“It was a difficult time for Chamisa as he was visibly shaken by the booing he received at Nyamakosi village. The people were accusing him and his party of neglecting Dzamara to death, only to speak glowingly of him at the unveiling ceremony. Chamisa was told that they should have tried to find specialist doctors for Dzamara if he was that valuable to their party,” said the source.

The source added that the booing increased when Chamisa told the crowd that more than US$14 000 had been raised to fly Dzamara to South Africa to see a specialist doctor.

“Chamisa was asked to explain how they used the funds raised for Dzamara’s medication. The crowd accused Chamisa of using the ailing Dzamara to fund-raise for the MDC Alliance. His security details had a torrid time trying to calm the restless crowd,” added the source.

According to the source, some people could be heard saying, “Ndimi makauraya Patson imi.

The source further said that Chamisa tried to crack some jokes to pacify the crowd, but his jokes found no takers as the people of Nyamakosi village made it clear to him that they wanted nothing to do with him.

Dzamara died last year in August after losing his battle with colon cancer. He was a fierce government critic who spent much of his days fighting against Government.
