MDC Alliance legislator causes stir in Vic Falls

MDC Alliance legislator for Chitungwiza South constituency, Maxwell Mavhunga, has reportedly caused a stir in Victoria Falls when he went on a rampage insulting people.

A source who spoke to this publication, said Mavhunga, who is attending a Pre-Budget Seminar in Victoria Falls, was yesterday roaming the streets of Victoria Falls shouting political messages that were aimed at insulting people.

“Mavhunga, who was in the company of Job Sikhala, was roaming the streets shouting some political messages aimed at inciting the public against the government. It seems he was on a mission to provoke people or the police so that he could be arrested as he was saying vulgarities against some government leaders,” said the source.

The source added that claims by the MDC Alliance that Mavhunga was abducted in Victoria Falls were desperate attempts to cover up his childish behavior.

“Claims that Mavhunga was abducted and assaulted by ZANU PF members are false as he was not assaulted by anyone. Even if you see him, he does not have any body marks or injuries to buttress the abduction story. The MDC Alliance are just cooking up stories to tarnish the government,” added the source.

The source added that Mavhunga, who went to Victoria Falls together with his wife, was expected to behave and focus on the task at hand, but he was turning the Pre-Budget Seminar into a platform to campaign for his party and insult the ruling party.

Commenting on the alleged abduction of Mavhunga, political analyst Terrence Chipwanya described the incident as the latest antics by the MDC Alliance to attract the attention of the UN rapporteur, Dr Alena Douhan, who is in the country.

“These are just political theatrics to attract the attention of the UN special rapporteur. The MDC Alliance will stop at nothing to tarnish the image of the government. I just urge the people of Zimbabwe to focus on what matters and ignore these sideshows from the MDC Alliance,” said Chipwanya.

Efforts to get a comment from MDC Alliance spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere were futile as her mobile phones were not reachable.
