President and ZANU PF’s First Secretary, Cde Mnangagwa has called upon Party members to promote unity and shun indiscipline, tribalism and other vices saying that they were alien to ZANU PF.

Officially opening the ZANU PF’s 19th National People’s Conference in Bindura yesterday, the President said the current restructuring exercise taking place in ZANU PF would rejuvenate and modernize the Party. He, however, took a swipe at members who cause chaos in the Party and those who exhibit unbridled ambitions.

“I congratulate all structures for embarking on this very important exercise and urge you to finalize all outstanding processes. This will enhance unity within the Party and accelerate the implementation of Party policies and programmes.

“It is, however, regrettable that a few members lack discipline, promote disunity and exhibit unbridled ambitions. This behaviour is alien to ZANU PF and must stop forthwith. As loyal and disciplined members, we should always abide by the rules, procedures and regulations of the Party. Relatedly, tribalism, regionalism, chicanery and corruption have no place in our colossal mass Party,” said President Mnangagwa.

The President said the youths were the future of the Party and focus should be put on programmes that ensure the growth of the youthful cadreship base. He said great strides had been made towards inculcating patriotism, loyalty to the Party and discipline among youths.

President Mnangagwa further said that with regards to capacitating the youths in politics and governance, the Party will enforce the maximum age limit of 35 years for the Youth League members. He added that the current National Executive members of the Youth League who have passed the age of 35 will become ex officio members of the Central Committee for a limited period. According to President Mnangagwa, at the national level, 10 seats will be reserved for the youth in the National Assembly.

President Mnangagwa also said the period of the reserved seats for women in the National Assembly has been extended, while proportional representation seats will be created within Local Authorities for women councilors. The President said women were best placed to advance the delivery of quality social services within communities.

The President challenged the League of War Veterans to continue playing a key party in not only protecting the gains of the liberation struggle, but also to promote the realization of Vision 2030.

President Mnangagwa called upon Party members to galvanize the principle of patriotism to ensure that ZANU PF remains the Part of choice.
