Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister, Senator Monica Mutsvangwa has urged marketers to take advantage of community radio and television stations to market their products.

Addressing delegates at the Marketers Association of Zimbabwe’s 13th annual convention in Kariba yesterday, Minister Mutsvangwa who is also the patron of the organisation said Government was committed to the implementation of media reforms.

“As the Second Republic, we are committed to fulfilling the provisions of the people driven constitution of 2013 on media freedom, I wish to urge you all to take advantage of the proliferation of community radio stations, campus radio stations, and commercial Television stations.

“These new platforms inevitably provide opportunities for marketers to access new clients. The opening up of our airwaves reaffirms President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s pledge to make Zimbabwe open for business,” said Minister Mutsvangwa.

The Minister urged marketers to take advantage of the Second Republic’s liberal stance on media freedom to attract new clients and build a vibrant marketing sector.

“Marketers, corporate executives and business representatives under the Marketers Association of Zimbabwe banner are targeting to create a vibrant sector and the government expects players to capitalise on the opening up of airwaves by the Second Republic to reach out to a wider market,” she said.

Senator Mutsvangwa challenged the marketers to play a pivotal role in image building and rebranding of the country.

“Ladies and Gentleman, as Government we are pleased to work with you as we strive to build our country’s image and economy and thus you as marketers have a critical role to play, we need to work together in harmony because Zimbabwe is our motherland and its success is everyone’s success,” she added.

She urged all Zimbabweans, regardless of political affiliation to be good ambassadors of the country.

“There is no Zimbabwean who is superior to the other, when we travel outside the country nobody walks around with a badge written MDC or Zanu-PF, we all move there with our Zimbabwean passports. Therefore there is need for us to represent our country well,” she said.

The event was also graced by Mashonaland West Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Honourable Mary Mliswa.
