Labour, Economists and African Democrats (LEAD) party president Linda Masarira has described the MDC Alliance leadership as egocentric people who wanted to perpetuate people’s suffering through the continuation of the illegal sanctions.
Commenting on MDC Alliance co vice president Tendai Biti’s assertion that the UN Special Rapporteur, Alena Douhan, was biased towards ZANU PF and Government, Masarira said the MDC Alliance should know that sanctions had affected every citizens and Douhan was correct in advocating for their removal.
“Prof Alena Douhan acknowledgement that the US, EU, UK, Canada and Australian sanctions on Zimbabwe are illegal, lacked due process and deprived ordinary Zimbabweans their full enjoyment of their human rights is very factual. Biti (Tendai) and company should be reminded that not everything is about them.
“The unfounded expressions of the politically fatigued Bitis of this world who think that the world revolves around them show how naïve they are about the functions of the UN Special Rapporteur,” said Masarira.
The LEAD president described the illegal sanctions as economic terrorism and persecution of innocent Zimbabweans who were deprived of their rights because of the embargoes. She added that the MDC Alliance rhetoric that there were no sanctions on Zimbabwe, sounded like a broken record.
Masarira added that MDC Alliance continued call for sanctions to remain in place had run out of steam. She added that that party’s insatiable appetite for power had seen them pressing for more sanctions against Zimbabwe to agitate people to cause despondency and anarchy in the country.
According to Masarira, all MDC Alliance leaders on social media who were behaving like headless chickens should know that Zimbabwe was bigger than any political party. She further urged all progressive political parties to work hard to restore the dignity and honour of their country
Last week, Biti attacked Prof Douhan for producing a report that confirmed that the illegal sanctions were not targeted at individuals, but on all Zimbabweans.
