Chamisa to expel lieutenants

An axe is hovering over the heads of some MDC Alliance bigwigs, with reports saying that Nelson Chamisa is now fed up with senior members who are clandestinely plotting to wrestle the leadership reigns from him.

A source who spoke to this publication said that Chamisa, who recently re-configured that party’s secretariat and placed his loyalists in influential position, has become increasingly agitated by political maneuvers of the Maruva Cabal that wants to dethrone him as the MDC Alliance leader.

“There is going to be a major reshuffle within the MDC Alliance structures and the reshuffle is also going to affect the presidium of the party. The president (Chamisa) is now fed up with the machinations of the Maruva Cabal who are secretly plotting his down fall. A number of party bigwigs will be expelled soon as they are considered to be opposed to Chamisa’s authority,” said the source.

The source added that people like Tendai Biti, Job Sikhala, Charlton Hwende and Welshman Ncube are likely to be expelled soon for creating parallel structures within the party. The source said that Chamisa was pained that people like Hwende and Biti, whom he considered his confidantes, were actually on the forefront plotting his downfall.

According to the source, Chamisa is planning to demote from influential posts all members who are of questionable loyalty. He wants to have a leadership team he can trust, not the current one which views him as a political naïve person.

In a recent subtle Facebook post, Chamisa hinted of the impending expulsion of the MDC Alliance bigwigs, by describing those who were plotting against him as snakes that should be crushed.

“I generally dislike snakes. Snakes are poisonous and venomous and I’m determined to crush the head of any snake absolutely and completely,” said Chamisa.

The MDC Alliance is embroiled in factional fights pitting Chamisa loyalists and the Maruva Cabal. The Maruva Cabal has reportedly gained more ground within the MDC Alliance structures; hence Chamisa is plotting to expel its leaders so as to consolidate his grip on the leadership reigns.
