Jonathan Moyo takes a dig at CCC

Self-exiled G40 kingpin and former cabinet minister, Professor Jonathan Moyo, has mocked the Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) over its ideological bankruptcy and has reminded that party that an ideology is forethought not an afterthought.

Moyo’s sentiments came after CCC leader Nelson Chamisa pronounced at a CCC inaugural rally held in Highfield over the weekend that the CCC did not have an ideology, constitution and or, party structures.

Writing on his Twitter handle yesterday, Professor Moyo said an ideology was like a map and whoever travels without a map is at the risk of missing his intended destination.

“An ideology is a map. If you are going somewhere far and want others to accompany you, you consult about the destination and get a map before embarking on the journey. If or when you get lost along the way, you can ask locals for directions using your map as your lodestar,” said Prof Moyo.

Moyo added that it was basic politics that an ideology should be the base where a political party is founded and said he would rather start an ideological school, purportedly to teach the CCC about politics.

Moyo further mocked Chamisa for declaring that in the event that he grabs state power, he would invite the whites to come back to Zimbabwe. Moyo said it was better for Chamisa to be identified with the people instead of being labelled a white man’s friend.

“Ideologically speaking, kunzi urimunhu wevarungu (being labelled a white man’s friend) is not a badge of honour anywhere in Africa, better wonzi urimunhu wevanhu (better be called the people’s person),”said Moyo.

Political commentator, Terrence Chipwanya, concurred with Prof Moyo that the CCC was doomed as it has no ideology to lean on.

“Prof Moyo is correct. The CCC should have started with formulating an ideology before presenting themselves to the electorate. A political party without an ideology and a constitution mostly faces internal turmoil as there will be no agreed documents that can regulate the behaviour and ambitions of the members,” said Chipwanya.

The CCC held its inaugural rally last Sunday where it failed to meet its target of 20 000 attendees. The failure to meet the target was predominantly attributed to the split where Douglas Mwonzora went away with a significant chunk.
