Zimbabwe’s Ambassador to Mozambique, Victor Matemadanda yesterday officially handed over grain that was pledged by the Zimbabwean Government for terrorism victims in Cabo Delgado.

When President Emmerson Mnangagwa visited Mozambique on February 12, he pledged to donate 1000 metric tonnes of grain to his counterpart, President Filipe Nyusi of Mozambique, which he has finally fulfilled.

Ambassador Matemadanda said that despite Zimbabwe facing its challenges, it has stepped in to help a neighbouring county in need.

“As a county, we have shown leadership and we know what is supposed to be done. When the President was in Mozambique a lot was discussed. It is time we call upon our entrepreneurs to do something regarding investments,” said Ambassador Matemadanda.

The insurgency in Cabo Delgado province of Mozambique has led to destabilisation with thousands of families facing food shortages due to displacement.

Ambassador Matemadanda officially handed over the grain to Luisa Meque, the National Institute for Disaster Risk Management and Reduction in Mozambique.

At a recent SADC summit held in Malawi, the block decided to extend the mission in Cabo Delgado to allow Mozambique to rebuild its infrastructure.
