Khupe rattles CCC structures

MDC-T factional leader Thokozani Khupe’s expected alliance with the Citizens Coalition for Change has unsettled some CCC members who are arguing that Khupe’s politics was retrogressive and not good for that party.

A source who spoke to this publication said that rumour has it that CCC leader Nelson Chamisa was contemplating accommodating Khupe in the new structure of that party, purportedly to regain his support in the Matabeleland region.

The source added that Chamisa was desperate to win the next elections and was willing to forgive Khupe for all her wrongdoing to pave way for an alliance between the two.

“Chamisa is ready to work with Khupe again so that he can consolidate his grip in the Matabeleland region. However, the expected return of Khupe might damage the CCC because most members are not comfortable working with her as they consider her toxic and a ZANU PF’s spy,” said the source.

The same source added that some Bulawayo-based CCC senior members such as Thabitha Khumalo have threatened to resign if Khupe is accommodated in that party.

“Khumalo has been fighting hard for her to be the godmother of the Matabeleland region. The coming of Khupe will likely scuttle her aspirations, hence, she is fighting tooth and nail to prevent her nemesis from joining the party. Khumalo has since threatened to resign from the party if Khupe is accommodated within the structures,” said the source.

According to the source, Khumalo told her close allies that the least Khupe should do was to apologise for betraying Chamisa instead of trying to form an alliance with him.

Efforts to get a comment from Khupe and Khumalo were futile as they were not answering their mobile phones.
