The Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) interim national spokesperson, Fadzayi Mahere, intends to challenge CCC interim co-vice president, Lynette Karenyi-Kore, for the post of CCC vice president at that party’s elective congress likely to be held later this year.

A source who spoke to this publication said Mahere was already lobbying for support as she desperately wants to be second in charge in the CCC.

The same source said that Mahere had since roped in the service of the UK based Zimeye journalist to do her bidding ahead of the congress.

“Mahere is eyeing for the vice president position. She and her camp argues that the current female vice president, Kore, was weak and doesn’t have the qualities needed to take the CCC forward. Mahere has since roped in the service of Chikanza to gauge public opinion concerning her interests,” said the source.

According to the source, Chikanza raised the issue on Twitter, on 20 April 2022, where he sought public opinion on the possibility of Mahere becoming the CCC vice president. Chikanza opened a voting platform on Twitter for either Mahere or Karenyi-Kore, where 301 netizens voted in favour of Mahere, whilst 31 voted for Karenyi-Kore.

The source added that Mahere’s machinations had the blessings of CCC leader Nelson Chamisa who wants Mahere to be his female deputy. The source further said that Chamisa also planned to appoint Gift Ostallos Siziba as that party’s national spokesperson in the event that Mahere is elevated to be the vice president.

The same source said the jostling for positions in the CCC had become too tense with some members openly clashing at party meetings. According to the source, the CCC might implode before the holding of the congress as the factional battles have become worse.

Efforts to get a comment from Mahere were futile as her mobile phones were not reachable.
