Police clarifies ‘disappearance’ of CCC activist

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has dismissed unfounded allegations that Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) member Moreblessing Ali was abducted by suspected ZANU PF members.

In a statement yesterday, the ZRP said that initial investigations had revealed that Ali disappeared while in the company of her former lover Pius Jamba.

“Initial police investigations have revealed that on 24 May 2022 at 2030 hours, Moreblessing Ali and her friend Kirina Mayironi went to drink beer at Chibhanguza Shopping Centre. Moreblessing Ali was also in the company of her dog. At around 2100 hours, the two women were approached by Moreblessing Ali’s former boyfriend Pius Jamba who openly told Moreblessing Ali that her dog was irritating him. Pius Jamba then had a scuffle with Moreblessing Ali and dragged her into darkness. The two disappeared and all this was clearly observed by Kirina Mayironi who later went home in company of Washington Mutsviri,” said the Police.

According to the Police statement, Jamba was also accusing Ali of dumping him after he had spent a lot of money on her during their love affair.

The Police added that the investigations have so far established that Jamba was not a member of any political party as alleged by some social media activists and politicians. It added that ZANU PF member Simba Chisango was not involved in the disappearance of Ali.

“Police investigations have also established that Pius Jamba is not a member of any political party as alleged by some social media activists and politicians. Currently there is no evidence to show that Simba Chisango is also linked to the disappearance of Moreblessing Ali or the scuffle which occurred at Chibhanguza Shopping Centre,” reads the statement.

Furthermore, the Police, urged the public and political activists not to interfere with the investigations and trying to take advantage of the differences between Ali and Jamba to settle political scores or gain political mileage. The Police assured the nation that it was working flat out to account for both Ali and Jamba.

Meanwhile, the Police’s statement watered down assertions by CCC leaders such as Job Sikhala who had openly claimed that Ali was abducted for campaigning for that political formation.
