The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has confirmed the arrest of Pius Jamba in connection with the gruesome murder of Moreblessing Ali.

Speaking through a statement yesterday, ZRP Assistant Commissioner Senior Staff Officer to the Commissioner General of Police, Paul Nyathi said that Jamba was arrested in Magunje.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms that Pius Jamba was arrested in Chidamoyo area, Magunje on the 16th of June 2022 in connection with the callous murder of Moreblessing Ali in Nyatsime area, Chitungwiza on the 24th   of May 2022,” said Ass Com Nyathi.

Nyathi confirmed that the investigations carried out revealed that Jamba was the one who killed Ali.

“Initial investigations have established that Pius Jamba killed Moreblessing Ali after dragging her from Chibhanguza Shopping Centre, hid the body in a bush and went to his parents’ homestead. He took a kitchen knife and a sack and went back to the bush,” he said.

Meanwhile, Nyathi informed the members of the public that investigations are being carried out to see if Jamba committed the heinous crime alone.

“Investigations are underway to find out if Pius Jamba acted alone or in connivance with other suspects. Police investigations have so far not found any political link to this sad and heinous crime. Pius Jamba will be appearing in court soon,” said Nyathi.

Prior to the police investigations, CCC Member of Parliament Job Sikhala incited members of the CCC party to engage in violence attacking members of the ruling party ZANU PF. The CCC members proceeded to burnt houses including that of ZANU PF Chairman for Nyatsime District George Murambatsvina. Sikhala has since been arrested and is facing up to a maximum ten years in prison.
