CCC’s Mugwazo campaign strategy failed to yield results

The Citizens Coalition for Change’s (CCC) ambitious rural voter mobilization campaign programme code named Mugwazo has failed to yield the desired results as that party has continuously failed to penetrate the rural areas.

An impeccable source within CCC told this publication that the Mugwazo campaign programme was mainly designed for Mashonaland Central and East provinces which are known ZANU PF strongholds.

However, after several manoeuvres to penetrate the provinces, reality has struck the CCC leadership that voter mobilization in the rural areas was becoming a daunting task with most of that party’s scheduled meetings being shunned by the locals.

“The Mugwazo campaign strategy has failed to yield the desired results. Several attempts by the CCC leadership including Tendai Biti, Lynnette Karenyi Kore and Charlton Hwende, to invade Mashonaland Central province have failed as the scheduled meetings in different parts of that province were shunned by the people. As it stands, the rural voter mobilization campaign is proving to be a daunting task for CCC,” said the source.

The source added that Hwende, who was recently in Bindura, Mashonaland Central province, reported to Chamisa that people in that province appeared to be attached to ZANU PF, making it difficult to woo them to CCC.

According to the source, there was a general consensus within CCC that the Mugwazo strategy should be abandoned immediately and replace it with a campaign strategy that appeals to the rural populace. However, that party’s interim Organising Secretary, Amos Chibaya, is reportedly insisting that the strategy was good but lacked support from senior members of that party.

The same source said that the absence of party structures was also making it difficult for the CCC to mobilise in the rural areas. The source added that the Mugwazo strategy was also affected by lack of financial resources as some people who previously financed that party’s activities were being hesitant to support the mobilization programme as they fear that the money might be abused due to a history of abuse of funds within CCC.

The CCC had plans to use the Mugwazo mobilisation programme to lure voters into voting for that party in 2023 to add to the slightly over two million votes that Chamisa garnered in the 2018 presidential elections.
