Chief advises Chamisa to accept defeat

Chief Raymond Saurombe of Chimanimani has advised the MDC- Alliance leader who is accusing the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) of stealing the election on behalf of Zanu PF, to graciously concede defeat for the country to forge ahead.

Speaking to Harare Post after news filtered that the MDC Alliance wants to challenge the results through the courts, Chief Saurombe said, “Rural registrants are 3.8 million compared to 1.8 million in urban set up, how then can MDC-Alliance cry foul that President Mnangagwa rigged the election.”

He said it’s now water under the bridge and that the opposition should provide evidence to their claim rather than opposing for the sake of opposing.

Harare has the most registrants with 900 300 and Bulawayo the fewest with 235,690. Rural registrants are 3,805,438 and urban registrants are 1,878,498.

“If you check on the figures of people who actually went to cast in urban areas compared to those in rural areas, you would find a big difference,” Saurombe said.

He said the urban voters who voted were less than the rural voters, so statistically this year’s election favoured of Zanu PF. The urban vote contributed 33 per cent while the rural vote stood at 67 per cent.

Political Commentator, Alexander Rusero attributed the President’s win to his mantra ‘Zimbabwe is open for business’ and that the country would focus more on economics than politics.

“The euphoria of MDC’s founding base premised on workers, the learned and civil society may have been at variance with Chamisa’s immature and student activism approach to the bigger broad politics of Zimbabwe,” said Rusero.

President Mnangagwa dwelt on economy more than politics during the campaign. He commissioned a lot of project from various sectors of the economy including, mining, health, agriculture among other, which literally resonated with the interests of the ordinary voter.
