Confrontational countries should turn a leaf

Confrontational countries should turn a new leaf and genuinely interact with Zimbabwe as the country is as a friend to all and an enemy to none.

This was said by President Mnangagwa during the burial of the late national hero, Cde Heighten Nkomo at the National Heroes Acre today.

President Mnangagwa said former colonialists should cease their pursuance of nefarious programmes that seek to subvert Zimbabwe’s independence, sovereignty and freedom.

“Our erstwhile colonisers now come back to us feigning to be human rights champions, only by day as by night they continue to pursue nefarious programmes to subvert our independence, sovereignty and freedom,” said the President.

President Mnangagwa also said Zimbabwe was grateful to the support accorded to her by Russia, China, Romania, Bulgaria and the former Yugoslavia who provided training, financial and moral support to the Armed Liberation Struggle.

“Zimbabwe is most grateful to countries such as the Soviet Union (now Russian Federation), China, Cuba, Romania, Bulgaria and the former Yugoslavia that provided training, financial and moral support to our Armed Liberation Struggle.

“To this day, that support remains the bedrock that anchors our unshakeable cordial and fraternal relations with these countries,” he said.

Zimbabwe has been battling illegal sanctions imposed by United States (US) and its allies. At the just ended 77th United Nations General Assembly, the African Union (AU) and Southern African Development Committee (SADC) called for the removal of the illegal sanctions without conditions. To this end President Mnangagwa expressed Zimbabwe’s gratitude to the AU and SADC for buttressing the calls for removal of the illegal sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe.

“Zimbabwe is, thus, most grateful to the countries including the African Union and SADC that buttressed our call for the unconditional removal of the illegal sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe at the just-ended 77th Session of United Nations General Assembly,” said the President.

Meanwhile, President Mnangagwa commended countries such as Russia and China for being true friends to Zimbabwe by pursuing friendly, progressive and win-win relations never seeking to degrade the country’s self-identity.
