We are on our own: Sikhala lawyer

Job Sikhala’s family spokesperson and lawyer, Freddy Michael Masarirevu has exposed the deep rooted factional fights within Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) and lamented that his client had been deserted by his colleagues.

In a tweet recently, Masarirevu indirectly admitted that Sikhala was facing it all alone as little was being done by his colleagues to secure his release from remand prison.

“We are all alone, we will learn soon, very soon,” wrote Masarirevu.

Sikhala’s lawyer further circuitously accused opposition legislators of being in politics just to line their pockets at the expense of the electorate.

“I am going to say this without fear of any consequences. Greed and selfishness is the reason why we are here today. I am yet to see at least five people who genuinely enter into politics for the belief and interest of Zimbabwe. It’s always personal and selfish interests.Vanhu mune makaro imi,” said Masarirevu.

Sikhala, speaking through his lawyer Masarirevu, has once again failed to acknowledge CCC or Nelson Chamisa in his latest epistle from prison. The Zengeza West legislator told his supporters and sympathisers that he was ready to make sacrifices ‘even against all forms of adversity.’

Meanwhile, a source who spoke to this publication said that Sikhala had lost trust in his CCC colleagues as he felt betrayed and deserted at his time of need. Sikhala was reportedly accusing his colleagues in CCC of failing to organise demonstrations and political engagements to secure his release from prison.

According to the source, Sikhala was angry that Chamisa hired South African lawyers, Dali Mpofu and Tembeka Ngcukaitobi to support his Constitutional Court’s challenge to the 2018 presidential results but has failed to do the same for him.

The same source added that it was highly likely that upon his release from prison, Sikhala was not going to associate himself with CCC as he was expected to revive his MDC-99 or join the newly formed Third Way political formation.

Efforts to get a comment from Masarirevu were futile as his mobile phones were not reachable.
