CCC struggling with candidate selection in Buhera

The Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) is reportedly struggling to get candidates to represent it in Buhera constituencies and wards.

A source who spoke to this publication said that CCC was finding it difficult to have candidates who would represent it in most of Buhera rural constituencies and wards.

“The future is not promising on the ground. There are no candidates in many wards in different constituencies of Buhera district. ZANU PF candidates are likely to win uncontested in some wards in Buhera due to shortage of CCC candidates,” said the source.

The source said that in Buhera North constituency, CCC only managed to have one aspiring candidate leaving other eight wards without a representative. The source added that only a few people expressed interest to represent CCC in Buhera West, Central and South local authority elections.

“It’s a disaster in Buhera as no one wants to represent the party in the forthcoming elections. CCC members are saying that the party has no money to sponsor their campaigns.  People are now sceptical about CCC and it will not surprise us if the party performs dismally in Buhera in the forthcoming elections,” said the source.

Another source informed this publication that most opposition leaders were not confident of that party’s financial capacity to field candidates in rural areas, but opted for safe seats in urban areas.

“Our leaders are afraid to contest in rural areas opting for safe seats in the towns. The likes of Tendai Biti, Fadzayi Mahere, Charlton Hwende and others have all rushed to seek nominations in urban areas as they are afraid of contesting in rural areas,” said the source.

Meanwhile, sources in CCC said that the party was also finding it difficult to deal with the issue of double nominations. In Norton constituency, Richard Tsvangirai and Raymond Mhlanga are both campaigning and claiming that they have been cleared by Chamisa to do so.
