Government commits to power devolution

Government has pledged to devolution of power as a strategy aimed at boosting competition and attainment of economic development in the country’s ten provinces.

Addressing mourners at the National Heroes Acre, gathered for the burial of national heroine Cde Thokozile Mathuthu, this Sunday, President Mnangagwa took the opportunity to pledge Government’s commitment towards devolution of power which he says is in line with the constitutional dictates.

“My Government has taken a decision to implement the constitutional requirements of devolving and decentralizing the running of our national affairs,” the President said.

“This is one of the strategies to rebuild our economy through modernisation and industrialisation, the creation of decent jobs as well as ensuring broad based empowerment in line with vision 2030.”

This is an approach which economists have been clamouring for, in the event that the country manages to achieve economic development in all the country’s ten provinces.

He also added that the Government’s vision on empowerment was in the right track since it resonated very well with SADC’s goals, as he had just returned from attending the regional board’s 38th summit in Namibia which was running under the theme, “Promoting Infrastructure Development and Youth Empowerment for Sustainable Development.”
