Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) members in Matabeleland North Province have accused that party’s interim organising secretary, Amos Chibaya, of taking bribes from aspiring candidates.

A source who spoke to this publication said that Chibaya was working in cahoots with CCC Matabeleland North interim provincial chairperson, Prince Dubeko Sibanda and Hwange Central legislator, Daniel Molokele, to influence the outcome of the candidate selection process in that province.

"CCC members in Matabeleland North Province are angry with Chibaya, whom they accuse of interfering with the candidate selection process. Chibaya is accused of taking bribes from aspiring candidates so that they win tickets to represent the party in the August 23 elections. Chibaya is working with Sibanda and Molokele to impose his preferred candidates in Matabeleland North Province," said the source.

The same source said that CCC managed WhatsApp groups in Matabeleland North Province were abuzz with members’ complaints against Chibaya’s shenanigans.

According to the source, the CCC candidate selection process had turned out to be Chibaya’s money-making scheme, as he was demanding ‘tithes’ from the aspiring candidates.

"The candidate selection process had turned out to be a money-making scheme for Chibaya and his team. Aspiring members who wanted to sail through the process were being asked to pay a ‘tithe’ to Chibaya. If you don’t pay the ‘tithe’, then you would be assured that your name would not pass the vetting by the Candidate Independent Selection Panel (CISP)," added the source.

The source sensationally claimed that Chibaya had also imposed his girlfriend in Bulawayo ahead of other deserving candidates.

"Chibaya has also imposed his girlfriend, Memory Makasi, to contest in the Nketa constituency in Bulawayo. Chibaya influenced the people of Nketa to dump the sitting legislator, Phelela Masuku because he had fallen out of favour with Chamisa. Chibaya is slowly destroying the party with his continued interference on the candidate selection process," said the source.

The source suggested that Chamisa should deploy his intelligence team to investigate accusations being levelled against Chibaya in Matabeleland North Province, as the allegations had the potential to cause voter apathy in that province.
