ZIMRA seized 50 bales containing 5 000 CCC t/shirts at the Private and Pedestrian terminal at Beitbridge border post.

An investigation done by this plublication revealed that the cellphone number belongs to Phidelis Chikonzo who is suspected to be the recipient of the bales. The contact revealed that the bales had forged receipts which indicated that they were worth ZAR 4 000. According to the source, this was an under declaration meant to evade duty. However, ZIMRA seized the bales and classified them as a commercial consignment.

“The Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) bales which were seized by ZIMRA hadforged receipts which indicated that they were worth ZAR 4 000. The bus crew had under declared them at the border post as a way of evading tax. However, ZIMRA has since seized the bales and classified them as commercial consignment,” said the contact.

Political analysts have indicated that ZIMRA and other security details at border posts must be highly vigilant to ensure that the security checks are done meticulously because the opposition might smuggle in weapons for use after elections results are released. The opposition is on record promising post election violence in the case of a ZANU PF vcictory.
