CCC looting workshop funds

Staff Reporter

The Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) has been rocked by massive pilferage of funds meant for the holding of workshops as the party prepares for the 23 August 2023 elections. The pilferage, being perpetuated by senior members of the party, involves either inflating the workshop costs or inviting family members to attend workshops instead of authentic party members. The close family members would then be rewarded with participation allowances and share such proceeds with the corrupt leaders facilitating the workshops.

According to a disgruntled senior CCC member, who talked to this publication in confidence, the party’s Director of Elections is the chief orchestrator of this kind of the pilferage bedevilling Zimbabwe’s main opposition party. The disgruntled official informed this publication that the Director of Elections paid US$300 to his relative who attended the party`s workshop held between 4 and 5 July 2023 at Kadoma Ranch Motel. The relative retained half of the allowance and surrendered US$150 to the party`s director.

It is suspected that most of the delegates who attended the Kadoma workshop were not bonafide party members but relatives of senior party members. The senior party official bemoaned the fact that such pilferage was taking place within the context of dwindling resource inflows attributable to donor fatigue. The party relies on crowd funding and donations from local and foreign sponsors.
