The opposition political parties are planning to boycott the August 23, 2023, Harmonised General Election, as it become clearer that the ruling party ZANU PF is heading toward a watershed victory.

A source within the MDC-T said its leader, Douglas Mwonzora is mobilising other political parties to boycott elections.

“Douglas Mwonzora is going around trying to enlist other opposition political parties to boycott the elections. He even approached Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) despite that they are sworn enemies, urging the party to unite and boycott the Presidential election slated for end of this month”, said the source.

Political analyst, Terrence Chipwanya has indicated that the opposition has a record of working overtime to discredit the election since its inception.  Chapwanya stated that previously, the leader of the Movement for Democratic Change-Tsvangirai (MDC-T) would mobilise opposition political parties to boycott elections.  In the same vein, the CCC has been threatening to boycott the 23 August 2023 elections.

“We are not surprised as political analysts that CCC plans to boycott the 23 August 2023 election. The opposition political parties since inception always came up with a strategy to discredit the election in the event that they lose the elections. The opposition is aware that the ruling party ZANU PF is headed for a landslide victory after fulfilling most of its 2028 promises”, said Chipwanya.

Meanwhile, Dickson Mafios brother to disqualified Presidential aspirant, Saviour Kasukuwere is also joining the bandwagon by mobilizing people in Mount Darwin to unite and boycott the Presidential election. According to Chapwanya, the election boycott has become a regular tool for political opposition parties to use, especially when they know that they cannot win the election due to their unpopularity.
