Residents and motorists have praised the Government for the successful completion of the Trabablas Interchange, a major transport infrastructure project expected to ease traffic congestion, boost trade, and accelerate economic development in line with Vision 2030.
Mercy Mhurudzekunze, a resident of Hopely in Harare, expressed gratitude for the development, noting that its impact goes beyond local communities.
“Not only Zimbabweans will benefit from the interchange. The entire SADC region stands to gain. Transportation of goods will be easier, especially for truck drivers,” he said.
She also pointed out that the construction of the interchange created much-needed employment for local residents, offering a lifeline to many struggling families in the area.
“Our children benefited. They gained employment, and that helped to keep them busy and away from social ills such as drug abuse.”
Another Hopely resident, Vincent Hadzikamwi, described the project as a life-changing development.
“The reduced traffic congestion and improved travel times have made my life a whole lot easier. This project is a game-changer for people like us who commute daily,” he said.
Government officials say the Trabablas Interchange is part of a broader infrastructure modernisation drive that underpins the country's Vision 2030.
Harare Mayor, Jacob Mafume, said the interchange will transform Zimbabwe into an upper-middle-income economy through improved service delivery, industrialisation, and economic competitiveness.
“Transport infrastructure is a critical enabler for economic growth, development, industrialisation, and modernisation. It is also central to the accessibility of goods and services, leading to an improved quality of life for the citizenry,” said Mafume.
The Trabablas Interchange is expected to reduce vehicle operating costs, improve road safety, and facilitate regional trade by linking key economic corridors.
Already, regional logistics companies have welcomed the development, saying it will help speed up cargo movement across borders.
As Zimbabwe continues to roll out flagship infrastructure projects nationwide, citizens are hopeful that such developments will bring about lasting transformation, job creation, and greater economic opportunities for all.
The completion of the Trabablas Interchange adds to a growing list of Government efforts aimed at reshaping Zimbabwe’s transport network and positioning the country as a strategic trade and transit hub in southern Africa.
